Three ways to make e-paper blush

Kaleido 3 is a color filter over a monochrome panel. You keep speed and 300 ppi text; you accept 150 ppi color and a darker page. Gallery 3 mixes cyan, magenta, yellow, and white pigment in the pixel: richer color, slower refresh, better art. Spectra 6 is for posters and shelf labels, not novels.

If 80 percent of your reading is prose, Carta 1300 is still the correct picture. Color is for covers, comics, children’s books, marked-up diagrams, and retail.

The contrast tax

Every Kaleido device in this catalog is a little dimmer than its black-and-white sibling. Front lights make up some of it and introduce their own grain. Read a chapter of a novel on Clara Colour and the same chapter on Clara BW in a sunlit room before you spend the extra.
